Simply add a couple of teaspoons to a glass of cool water (six ounces or so), stir and rinse. This should ease the pain for a short period of time. You can follow this routine as often as necessary.

An ice pack or cold compress is also good. You can make your own by placing ice cubes into a damp cloth or even use a bag of frozen vegetables. If it is too cold, use a towel or some other buffer between the frozen item and your face. The last thing you want is a frostbitten face when what you need is tooth pain relief.
It may sound overly simplistic, but gently brushing your teeth can help the situation. Find toothpaste with a high fluoride content. This can be done frequently and can help alleviate the pain.

In fact they be soon be used to treat medical conditions such as diabetes and hyperglycemia and others. You may want to try dicing an onion and placing a piece of it right on the tooth. Two other possibilities that are natural are cloves and tea. Ground cloves or clove oil can be applied directly to the affected tooth. An unused tea bag can be warmed up and placed on the tooth. Be sure the tea bag isn't too hot. Tea leaves have also been shown to help some people.

Suffering through the travails of tooth pain can be debilitating at best and it is doubly frustrating if it coincides with a special occasion.
